Supporting Bosom Buddies
September 09, 2019
The Independent Foundation is proud to support Bosom Buddies, a Canberra not-for-profit founded in 1995 by Shirley Fitzgerald, and a number of her friends, all of whom had experienced breast cancer, to support a friend who had been newly diagnosed and was about to start her breast cancer treatment.
It is an organisation of volunteers who provide personal support to breast cancer patients and their families and supporters in the ACT and surrounding region. Over 400 people are diagnosed every year in Canberra alone.
Bosom Buddies also runs workshops, social activities, information booths and fundraising stalls, to help raise awareness in the community about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.
